THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Sasneham’, a voluntary forum formed by the Orkut community in the name of singer G. Venugopal, is all set to step into charity work.

As part of the 25th year of the career of the singer, the community has decided to launch a series of programmes for the children at Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), starting Saturday.

Sasneham will organise weekly classes and events in the form of music, drawing, painting and magic show for the inmates of the paediatric ward at RCC. The forum also wishes to bring to the attention of other voluntary organisations, the palliative care needs of the children at RCC.

The idea was mooted by Venugopal himself and he will be inaugurating the first of the series of events at RCC on Saturday, at 2.30 p.m. A few members from the community had held discussions with Dr Kusuma Kumari, Chief Paediatrician, RCC on initiating this project.

The name Sasneham (which means ‘affectionately’) was suggested for the forum reflecting the intentions of the group and also in remembrance of the Malayalam movie title featuring the song ‘Thaane poovitta moham...’ sung by G. Venugopal himself which had become a mega hit.

The Orkut community of Venugopal was formed in November 2005 and it has 13,472 members.

The main highlight of the community is the involvement of the celebrity himself. The community had its first meeting on May 2009, in which Venugopal himself attended.
